For the last 6 months I have been consulting The Runes as part of my meditation practice.
 I find the ritual fascinating and amazingly accurate. So I will start today to share my Runic Predictions.
And asking the question, “What action should we take today?”
Life is precious and brief so take time to enjoy your passions and open your heart to enlightenment and joy. Ask your self “How should I live my life?”.

Are You Watching American Idol?

Does American Idol need a new twist?

 One of the complaints the judges always make is “Wrong song choice.” It’s getting to be boring. The show itself could use a little shaking up don’t you think?

I’d like to watch something completely new, the contestants could sing songs so new that no one has ever heard them before and the judges and audience have no preconceived ideas of how it should sound.

The song could be from well know song writers or artist such as Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen, Sir Paul Mc Cartney or Miley Cyrus, or they could be submitted by total unknown lyricists. Another suggestion is that the contestants have to sing the instructions on a medicine bottle in any style they choose, the pharmaceutical industry and advertisers would love that!

As I take Coumadin every day for a blood clotting disorder I’d like to submit my song.

“You say Coumadin and I say Warfarin”

(Using the melody from ‘Let’s call the whole thing off’).

Coumadin is an anticoagulant, a really cool blood thinner.

It works by blocking the synthesis of certain clotting factors.

Coumadin is used to prevent heart attacks, strokes, and blood clots.

You say Coumadin and I say Warfarin

You say Heparin and I say Jantoven

It’s all Blood thinners to me.

Be careful! Don’t use if you are pregnant and never take a double dose of Coumadin!

Be sure to tell your surgeon and don’t forget the dentist.

Don’t wait until your table to show your medical alert bracelet.

You say Coumadin and I say Warfarin

You say Heparin and I say Jantoven

It’s all Blood thinners to me.

Coumadin interacts with many other drugs, This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.

 You should not take acetaminophen (Tylenol), aspirin, or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) unless your doctor has told you to. NSAIDs include celecoxib (Celebrex), diclofenac (Voltaren), ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), indomethacin, naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene), and others. These medicines may affect blood clotting and could cause serious bleeding in your stomach or intestines!

You say Coumadin and I say Warfarin

You say Heparin and I say Jantoven

It’s all Blood thinners to me.

Avoid sudden changes in your diet. Vitamin K decreases the effects of Coumadin. Large amounts of vitamin K are found in foods such as liver and leafy greens.

Avoid eating cranberries, drinking cranberry juice, or taking cranberry herbal products.

Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of Coumadin. Adios my favorite cocktail!

You say Coumadin and I say Warfarin

You say Heparin and I say Jantoven

It’s all Blood thinners to me.

Side effect include skin changes or discoloration anywhere on your body, purple toes or fingers, pain in your stomach, back, or sides;

Low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);

Diarrhea, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; easy bruising or bleeding that will not stop;

Blood in your urine; black, bloody, or tarry stools;

Nosebleeds, bleeding gums, coughing up blood;

Feeling weak or light-headed; sudden headache, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance;

Sudden leg or foot pain; or sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body.

Less serious side effects may include: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;

Gas and bloating; or hair loss. Oh Whoopee!

You say Coumadin and I say Warfarin

You say Heparin and I say Jantoven

It’s all……….. Blood thinners………… to me!

Thank you very much.

Will Angelina Jolie play the next ‘mutant’ hero?

We love mutant heroes. It doesn’t matter if they are Turtles (www.ninjaturtles.com) or cheerleaders (www.nbc.com/heroes) or ‘Twilight’ vampires (www.Stepheniemeyer.com).  Where would the entertainment business be without The Hulk, Spiderman or Wolverine? (www.marvel.com).

The idea of mutation is fascinating. The definition is “A permanent change, a structural change in the DNA or RNA”. (According to www.medterms.com)

I recently discovered that I am a mutant. How cool is that?

 I have a hereditary gene mutation called Factor V Leiden. Maybe the name of a new X man or woman?

It is actually a genetic f*** up or ‘structural change’ that causes the blood to hyper coagulate thus making you much more prone to clots, especially if you also have deficiencies in various other proteins in the mix as well. What a cocktail!

It also means that smoking, taking contraceptive pills or any medication that may cause a clot – even ibuprofen can be risky. Doctors must be informed before surgery, a fall and injuries need to be monitored and keeping active to improve circulation is essential.

That doesn’t sound so cool I know. But, at least I now know and can adapt my lifestyle with a few small but important changes. My children will be tested, as it is hereditary. Knowledge is power. I would rather they didn’t get a clot to find out this medical information as I did. I recommend to everyone get a blood test. (www.fvleiden.org)

Hematology is the future! It is at the cutting edge of medicine and biotechnology. Yet it’s seen as dull but it should be sexy. Hollywood needs to step in and give Thrombillia a new image with a great super hero and a block buster movie.

So here is my pitch Hollywood – any directors reading this let me know – I’ll be checking my comments and twitter tweets!

The Deadly Adventures of Factor V. (working title).

By day Dr. Leiden works in her lab trying to find a cure for various DNA mutations. But by night she is a mysterious, masked, latex clad super hero called Factor V.

Factor V uses her own gene mutation powers to kill vampires. It is a power that has been passed down through her family for generations. She doesn’t need the old stake through the heart nonsense. No she can hunt them and let the vampires think they are seducing her, even let a vampire take a bite. The moment her blood enters the vampire it clots instantly and turns the vampires veins to solid rock.

Why doesn’t she become a vampire? Well that’s the cool part – the gene mutation makes her immune to the venom of a vampire and the clotting disorder means the puncture wounds quickly heal.

Tragically Factor V is in love with a vampire named Ryan; he was her best friend but was attacked by a vampire and is now one of them. They can never risk being together for too long in case he is overcome with the desire to bite and she with the urge to kill. Factor V has a nemesis of course (I think there will have to be several for sequels). An evil genius/billionaire vampire called Lord de Vour; is intent on controlling the world by using a powerful drug in all drinking water that makes everyone become his obedient servant to his bidding and give blood for his army. Factor V must stop him to save the world. (Lots of explosions and special effects opportunities).

More details of “The Deadly Adventures of Factor V” to come.

Who should play Factor V?

 Angelina Jolie would be perfect as the new mutant super hero. Angelina if you are not too busy with all your children, charity work and movie commitments; will you consider taking this role and promoting DVT and genetic mutation awareness please????

Thanks.

What’s the Rune for ‘Michelle Obama’ Day?

The world is falling in love with Michelle Obama. I declare today ‘Michelle Obama Day’.

She embraced Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen seemed delighted by her warm gesture. Michelle Obama is Blossoming into an amazing First Lady.

This is a great day not just for Michelle Obama but for all of us if we choose it to be.

Today’s Rune is Berkana.

Today is a time for growth in all affairs of the world, family matters and within us.

“Berkana leads to blossoming and ripening”.

(- R H Blum).

 It is time to sweep away resistance and doubts. Spring clean your mind of procrastination. There is work to accomplish. Roll up your sleeves use care and awareness in your tasks today. Be diligent and patient. It is time to Blossom.

As Michelle Obama blooms in London during the G20 summit, so too can you bloom and grow.

‘Happy Blossoming!’

Jon Stewart seen in hospital in Paris

So imagine that you have not bothered to read up on DVT and have no idea what the symptoms are (see previous post) and Jimmy Fallon has not yet discussed this issue on his talk show with his jet set celebrity friends.

You decide to take advantage of an amazing spring break deal and fly to Paris, aah Paris! During the flight, you ignore the sudden cramp in your left leg. You have 4 days to soak up the Parisian atmosphere and you are determined to see the new exhibition of Rodin at the Musee D’Orsay. (www.musee-orsay.fr).The pain in your left calf is not going to spoil your precious vacation time. Paris is such a pleasure to walk around and admire except when your left leg is really aching and slightly swollen. Still, you soldier on thinking the pain will wear off. You enjoy cafes on Boulevard Saint-Germain and the fantastic apartment at Residence Le Regent (www.residence-le-regent.com) If only this pain would go away you could really explore the 6th quarter.

 France’s health care system is ranked number 1 by the World Health Organization. The hospitals in Paris are ultra modern and staffed with the best medical staff in the world which is good news for you as now the pain in your leg is not your only problem. There is an agonizing pain in your right side below your arm pit, you feel exhausted and have started to cough up blood.

The French are proud of the language so you may want to grab the dictionary or phrase book to explain that this is an emergency(Urgence) and you need an ambulance (Ambulance), a hospital (Hopital) for the pain (la douleur) and the bloody cough (Toux en sang), immediately (immediatement)!

Or you can go directly to the American Hospital of Paris www.american-hospital.org

Please bookmark this amazing if unusual place to visit in your guide book to Paris.

There (if you hurry) you will be treated with great speed and expertise by an international team of English speaking, top doctors and nurses. You will be diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism and admitted to intensive care where you will remain for the rest of your vacation maybe longer. Whilst you are pumped with heparin and warfarin, monitored by a dozen machines all with electrodes stuck to your chest you will not be able to move but remain immobile in your hospital bed in your intensive care room and drowsy from the morphine you are taking to control the incredible pain.

Visiting hours are short the TV is your friend. There are a dozen French channels and CNN. So your French will begin to improve as will your knowledge of current affairs. But all that world news can be very depressing you long for some light entertainment after your near death experience.

 As you lay awake at 2 am in the morning listening to your monitor beeping, you may just see a familiar face pop up on the TV. No, it’s not a morphine induced hallucination, it is Jon Stewart on the ‘Daily Show’! Enjoy the moment, smile, all is once again well with the world as some normality returns to your life.

 How lucky you are to finally find some real entertainment. 1 in 10 people die within the first hour of experiencing a pulmonary embolism so thank your lucky stars, God and the French health care system that you got to watch Jon Stewart in hospital in Paris once more!

Q: Does Jimmy Fallon have a blood clot?

Welcome to this, the first posting of Willy Nilly news!

Q: Does Jimmy Fallon have a blood clot?

 Or for that matter do any of his guests on his new show have a blood clot? This is an important question that I think the talented ex SNL star should ask all his guests on his new talk show, “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”, on NBC. www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com

After a nervous start and a good impression of ‘Tigger’, he can breathe a little easier knowing he’s made it through the first week of high expectations and media hype with flying colors. Jimmy’s charm and wit emerged as he relaxed a little more with each show, chatting easily with a bevy of well wishing celebrity friends like Justin Timberlake, Tina Fey, Jon Bon Jovi, Cameron Diaz, Billy Crudup and even the notoriously reticent Robert De Niro.

But, if Jimmy Fallon wants to become the next great talk show host and stay on the air forever with the likes of the legendary Jay Leno and David Letterman. He not only needs to have a really cool band such as The Roots (check), play goofy games (check) and tell funny, topical jokes (check) every week day night for the next 20 years.

He also needs to get serious about his interviewing skills. Getting back to my original question, to know if you have a blood clot or not, you first need to know the symptoms of a blood clot.

Ask Drew Barrymore and Mario Batali this question tonight Jimmy. Be prepared to help them out by doing a little research and get savvy Jimmy. Check out www.stoptheclot.org

 Help to spread awareness and save lives in a fun and entertaining way! DVT isn’t great TV like the ‘Miraculous survival of a truck and train crash’. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK-EuSLKQe0

But it does kill quickly if the symptoms are ignored. The survival of the human race may depend on you Jimmy Fallon.

 As the weeks turn into months and you start to sit for longer periods of at your desk talking, talking, talking. Remember, the Bee Gees said, “Well you can tell by the way I use my walk….Well use your walk Jimmy and keep on circulating your circulation! Good Luck!

Thanks to all for reading this post. Now all of you, GET UP and MOOOOVE IT!
